Let’s talk about gifts for travelers. Or gifting in general.
The most difficult part of choosing a gift for a loved one is deliberating whether they already own a piece of what you’re planning on gifting. Who would appreciate seeing a loved one allow something you thought well of before buying collect dust somewhere in the darkest corners of their drawers. I definitely wouldn’t. True, once you gift out something, whatever the receiver decides to do with them is no longer your concern, but still…
I’m sure you got my point.
Here are five gifts for travelers they will truly appreciate, love, and continue to use even if they already own a dozen of them. Okay, a dozen is probably a bit of a stretch but, again, you had my point. Also, there are no keychains and ref magnets. Promise!
#1 POWER BANK
Let’s admit it. We all love to take photos during our travels. As the pesky internet people would always say, “photos or it didn’t happen.” And so we all felt guilty when we can’t have enough to blast them with on social media.
During our three-day camping in the mountains of Jabal Sawda, I found myself deliberately avoiding the incessant use of my GoPro and iPhone to take photos and videos in fear that I’d quickly empty my batteries and there is just no way I can charge them in the wilderness. And true enough, my sole 10,400mAh battery pack only lasted until the second night despite having only taken abnormally few photos than I ever normally would. Worse, we decided to go back to the city on the third day and book a hotel for a night just so we could all recharge our gadgets.
A single battery pack will only last you a day with continues use of your gadgets. I seriously recommend carrying at least one with you for each day of traveling if you’ll have no access to an electric power outlet. Planning on camping for a week, take at least eight power banks with you. No kidding!
The Anker PowerCore 26800mAh Portable Charger boasts of its USB Type-C charging port that capable of fast charging of up to three (3) times the conventional USB types.
Note: The bundle includes a PowerCore 26800, 2X Micro USB Cable, Travel Pouch, and a worry-free 18-month warranty and friendly customer service. However, USB-C to Lightning cable for iPhone / iPad sold separately.
#2 SOLAR POWER BANK
Stay for days camping in the wild and you’ll start itching to charge your smartphones. But being in the wild, no electrical power source exists. Which is why a power bank capable of storing solar power is probably going to be your best buddy no matter how many days you plan to stay in the wilderness.
In reference to #1, have extra peace of mind knowing that you can harness the power of the blazing sun to charge your gadgets. Attach a solar powered power bank on your tent (or somewhere you won’t accidentally stump them on) and leave them to charge while you embark on a photo craze.
Especially during long-term travels, a traveler can never have enough of them. Enough said.
The FLOUREON 10,000mAh Solar Power Bank with External Battery Charger lets you charge before leaving your home and continue charging under the sun.
It comes with Dual USB 1.0A/2.1A so you can charge two gadgets at the same time.
#3 PACKING CUBES
Packing cubes are the industrial revolution’s gift to travelers. Gone are the days when I would need to empty a full rucksack just to find that charging cable I already spent hours searching for. Having several packing cubes to separate my clothes, gadgets, and other paraphernalia inside my rucksack or luggage eliminated these terrible instances. Additionally, I occasionally receive compliments from onlookers for having a decently packed luggage in case I had to open them at the airport.
If you often had to empty your entire luggage or bag just to search for an small, elusive stuff, packing cubes will be great for you. These compressible travel organizers will fit in your bag to separate everything during your travels. They come in different sizes for different use. Your traveler friend, partner, or family will enjoy owning more than several sets they can mix and match for several bags and pieces of luggage.
The Shacke Pak – 5 Set Packing Cubes – Medium/Small – Luggage Packing Travel Organizers keep everything in your bag in proper order. They are made from high-quality water-resistant nylon material with durable YKK zippers and extended zip cords.
#4 COMPRESSION SOCKS
Whether lost or not, travelers tend to walk A LOT. They are the perfect casts for Walkers (The Walking Dead) or White Walkers (Game of Thrones). Which is why travelers will benefit greatly from compression socks.
Compression socks are specially made, snug-fitting, and stretchy socks. You wear them like regular socks but they gently compress your legs and allow your blood vessels to work better. This greatly reduces pain and swelling in your legs brought about by long walking.
#5 DSLR BATTERIES
Sure, your friend already owns a bunch of power banks (including a solar-powered one). Unfortunately, none of it fits to charge a standard DLSR camera and being not able to charge it while having a photo blast in the wilderness will not sound great. It was for me.
So you better have your friend own at least two replacement DSLR batteries.
Now this can be tricky as you can’t just buy any DSLR battery available in the market. It must be compatible with your friend’s camera.
The solution is to ask your friend (or stalk what DLSR camera your friend is using) and find a compatible battery online.
Here are the common ones.
As earlier mentioned, this list of gift ideas for travelers is inspired by my recent outdoor campings in the mountains but the each of these gift ideas will fit any type of travelers.
